We have been here in Escanaba in Michigan’s upper peninsula for about a week and a half now. Our sponsor is the UP State Fair board and my team has been staying in what is essentially a small airplane hanger with a bunch of bunk beds inside. We have been painting some of their buildings and doing some other work in preparation for their upcoming fair season. The work has not been terribly gratifying but the town is neat and we have been able to see a lot of the natural beauty that the UP has to offer, including a trip to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
I am going to save my words and let the pictures I took do most of the talking about Pictured Rocks. Among the photos is are several of a tree stranded on an island of rock that had once been part of the bluff but is now isolated due to erosion, its only connection to the rest of the rock face is the tree’s roots. Of course some of my teammates and I were compelled to crawl across the roots, which were about fifty feet in the air, to give the tree some company. I later found a way to climb up the “rock island,” It was like solving a difficult puzzle and I felt a deep sense of satisfaction when I reached the top.

What an astonishingly beautiful place. The lake looks crystal clear and the creeks that empty into it look so inviting.

Beautiful pictures! Those are roots? and you climed accross them? Are you crazy, or just young enough not to be afraid? Mission accomplished it looks like you had a lot of fun and saw beautiful sights.
